A message from UFCW United Latinos President

Dear United Latinos Familia,
Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month (Sep 15 – Oct 15) honors the contributions and beautiful diversity of Latinx communities in the United States, from immigrant to second and third generation Latinxs who have chosen to make this place their home. As we close off Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month we want to acknowledge the legacy of Latinx leaders before us which we honored during this month, we truly stand in the shoulders of giants. They fought, and some continue fighting, to improve working conditions for thousands of Latinx workers.
Honoring them during this month reminds us that our lucha, our struggle, is constant. We must continue to show up for our community and fight for its well-being. This means standing up in the face of injustice to continue building a stronger movement. This means standing in solidarity with Black and Indigenous communities and collectively building a better movement. This means calling out racism within Latinx communities and leadership. That is how we continue to honor the Latinx leaders that came before us and make our movement stronger.
Today is the last day of Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month but we must remember that we fight and honor our fight and our cultura in the United States all year long.

Querida familia de los Latinos Unidos de la UFCW,
El mes de la herencia hispana/latina honra las contribuciones y bella diversidad de las comunidades latinas de los Estados Unidos, desde inmigrantes a latinos de segunda o tercera generación quienes han escogido hacer de este lugar su nuevo hogar. Mientras cerramos este mes de la herencia hispana, queremos reconocer el legado de los líderes latinos a quienes honramos durante este mes – realmente nos paramos en los hombros de gigantes. Ellos lucharon, y algunos continúan luchando, para mejorar las condiciones de trabajo de los trabajadores latinos.
Honrarlos durante este mes nos recuerda que nuestra lucha es constante. Debemos continuar a apoyar a nuestra comunidad y pelear por su bienestar. Esto significa resistir y pelear en contra de la injusticia para seguir construyendo un movimiento más fuerte. Esto significa apoyar y demostrar nuestra solidaridad con las comunidades indígenas y personas negras, para que colectivamente podamos construir un mejor movimiento. Significa también reconocer y pelear contra el racismo en las comunidades y liderazgo latino. Es así como continuaremos honrando el legado de nuestro líderes latinoamericanos y como haremos nuestro moviendo más poderoso.
Hoy es el último día del mes de la herencia latinoamericana/hispana pero debemos recordar, luchar y honrar nuestra lucha y cultura en los Estados Unidos durante todo el año.
