Expansion of Expedited Deportations
The United Latinos of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) condemns the Trump Administration’s Expansion of Expedited Deportations The Trump Administration announced on July 22, 2019 that it would be publishing a new rule on July 23, 2019 to take effect that same day that expands expedited removal (or deportations).
Under this new rule, immigration officers have the sole discretion to deport non-citizens without due process or a hearing before a judge. Any non-citizen found anywhere in the United States can be subjected to this fast-tracked deportation without ever seeing a judge or having a fair day in court. This rule will take effect immediately. This is a continued attack of our community by this Administration.
The United Latinos will not stand for this Administration’s continued racist policies. This rule will have a negative and dangerous impact on communities of color, resulting in racial profiling and the unlawful detention and deportation of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents. Workers of color anywhere in the United States can be subject to an immigration officer’s racial profiling and be unlawfully deported under the expedited removal rule without the opportunity to see a judge. Nobody in America should live in fear of being separated from their family or being deported without their day in court.
